Yamaha taps MTECH for Music Production PR
Buena Park, CA, December 22nd, 2005 – Yamaha Corporation of America has expanded the role of audio
technology PR firm MTECH Marketing Communications to provide media relations services for its Music
Production products. This new agreement begins on January 1, 2006 and will be effective for the musical
instrument industry’s marquee trade show, NAMM, January 19-22, 2006.
“As music production has become more centered around the computer and Yamaha Corporation of America has begun
distributing a number of new companies including Steinberg, CME and Arturia as well as our mix of Yamaha music
production products, we wanted to consolidate our PR strategy,” said Athan Billias, Yamaha Corporation of America’s
Director of Marketing - Technology Products. “Using MTECH marketing allows us to promote the complete music
production system solutions that our products provide.”
Previously representing Yamaha distributed brands Steinberg and CME, MTECH will now represent the entire Music
Production category for Yamaha, including the
Motif and S series synthesizers, the 01V96V2 and 02R96V2 digital mixers, AW series hard disk recorders, MSP series
studio monitors, and audio/MIDI interfaces such as the 01X and i88X.
“Music production today relies on both traditional musical instruments and the latest technology,” said Brian McConnon,
principal and audio technology specialist for MTECH. “Yamaha brings to market the complete scope of instruments and
production tools as well as the vision to bring them together through technology for true studio integration.”
Established in 1960, the Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) offers a full line of musical instruments, audio/visual, and
computer-related products to the U.S. market. Within YCA, there are several sales and marketing divisions, i.e., piano and
keyboard products, band and orchestral instruments, commercial audio products, guitars, drums and synthesizer music
production products. Yamaha Corporation of America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation, Japan, and is
the largest of all global subsidiary companies.
Brian McConnon founded MTECH in January of 2004 after 10 years of successful and diverse positions in the audio
industry including Technology Buyer for Guitar Center [GTRC], the world’s largest musical instrument retailer, and US
Marketing Manager for Steinberg Media Technologies, makers of Cubase and Nuendo. McConnon now puts his experience
to work at MTECH where he provides marketing communications and PR for audio and technology manufacturers such as
Yamaha, Steinberg Media Technologies, Blue Microphones, Auralex Acoustics, Virtuosoworks, iZotope, and others.
